Recently, microRNA-1247 (miR-1247) has been reported to function as tumour suppressor in several cancer types, including pancreatic cancer, hepatocellular cancer and lung cancer.
These findings demonstrated that miR-1247-5p functions as a tumor suppressor in human HCC by targeting Wnt3 and that the expression of miR-1247-5p can be regulated by DNA methylation, which indicates that miR-1247-5p has the potential to be a therapeutic target as well as a diagnostic marker of HCC.
In the present study, we explored the molecular functional role of microRNA-1247 as tumor suppressor associated with epigenetic alteration in pancreatic cancer.
Our study provides unequivocal evidence that MIR941 and MIR1247 are transcriptionally regulated by DNA methylation in gastric cancer and that they have tumor suppressor properties through their inhibition of key cancer promoting genes in this context.
