These findings indicate that IFN-gamma and anti-FnR antibody induce NCA mRNA in cultured colon cancer cell lines, suggesting that inflammatory response and cell-to-extracellular matrix interaction may be related to the increased expression of NCA mRNA in colorectal cancers in vivo.
These data confirm that NCA-50 is the product of the mRNA whose corresponding cDNAs were recently isolated from a human lung (HLC-1), as well as from a colon carcinoma cell line (SW 403) cDNA library.
The clone was obtained from a lambda gt 10 library made from the colon carcinoma cell line SW 403; the clone contains a 34-amino acid leader sequence, 310 amino acids for the mature protein, and 1.4 kilobases of 3'-untranslated region of the NCA gene.
These data suggest that NCA may be more useful as a tumor marker for colon carcinoma than CEA at the level of mRNA, and that transcriptions of the CEA and NCA genes might be regulated by some common mechanisms in malignant and nonmalignant tissues of the colon.
