GSTP1Ile105Val polymorphism might be associated with the risk of radiation pneumonitis among lung cancer patients in Chinese population: A prospective study.
Furthermore, individuals possessing combined genotypes of N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) rapid acetylator, GSTP1 mutant and both GSTT1(-) and GSTM1(-) have a remarkably higher lung cancer risk than those carrying combined NAT2 slow acetylator genotype, GSTP1 wild genotype and both GSTT1(+) and GSTM1(+) genotypes.
However, only four of the previously reported associations with polymorphisms in the GSTP1 (Ala14Val), SOD2 (Val16Ala), EPHX1 (His139Arg) genes and the NAT1 fast acetylator phenotype remained significantly associated with lung cancer.
GSTP1Ile105Val was associated with increased lung function, reduced risk for lung cancer and tobacco-related cancer, and reduced all-cause mortality in the general population.
The combined GSTM1 null/GSTP1 Val genotype was associated with lung cancer overall and especially among former smokers, before and after adjusting for adducts (OR for former smokers = 4.21, CI 1.08, 16.41; adjusted OR = 4.68, CI 1.17, 18.71).
