This study, the first to include evidence on 577G/A and INT4, reports a significant association between SLC11A1 gene variants and PTB with respect to susceptibility and subsequent disease progression in East India.
Using polymerase chain reaction and the restriction fragment-length polymorphism analyses, we investigated four previously reported SLC11A1 polymorphisms, variations in 5'(GT)n, INT4, D543N, and 3'UTR in 95 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis including 10 MDR-TB patients.
The aim of this study is to investigate the roles of AMs response-related genes TNF-alpha, iNOS, and NRAMP1 (SLC11A1) in susceptibility to silicosis and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), and to analyze the interaction of dust exposure and genetic susceptibility to silicosis, interactions of TNF-alpha-308 and Natural Resistance-associated Macrophage Protein 1 (NRAMP1) INT4, D543N polymorphisms to PTB.
To test this possibility, we examined NRAMP1 variants at the INT4 and D543N loci, as well as their association with severe forms of pulmonary tuberculosis, in 127 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis and in 91 ethnically matched, healthy control subjects in areas of China where tuberculosis is endemic.
