We found also that BAG6 rs3117582 SNP was associated with non small cell lung cancer in the Norwegian subjects and the combined Croatian-Norwegian subjects corroborating the earlier finding that BAG6 rs3117582 SNP was associated with lung cancer in Europeans.
This meta-analysis demonstrated that the three common variations (rs4324798, rs3117582, and rs9295740) on 6p21 are risk factors associated with increased lung cancer susceptibility, but these associations vary in different ethnic populations.
As a result, 15 SNPs on or near 12 genes and one miRNA with strong evidence of association with lung cancer risk were identified, including TERT (rs2736098), CHRNA3 (rs1051730), AGPHD1 (rs8034191), CLPTM1L (rs401681 and rs402710), BAT3 (rs3117582), TRNAA (rs4324798), ERCC2 (Lys751Gln), miR-146a2 (rs2910164), CYP1B1 (Arg48Gly), GSTM1 (null/present), SOD2 (C47T), IL-10 (-592C/A and -819C/T), and TP53 (intron 6).
A meta-analysis provided increased support that variation at 15q25.1 (rs8034191; P = 3.24 x 10(-26)), 5p15.33 (rs4975616; P = 2.99 x 10(-9)), and 6p21.33 (rs3117582; P = 4.46 x 10(-10)) influences lung cancer risk.
SNP rs31489 showed the strongest evidence of familial lung cancer association on 5p15.33 (P = 2 x 10(-4); odds ratio, 0.57; 95% confidence interval, 0.42-0.77), whereas rs3117582 showed a weak association on 6p21.33 (P = 0.09; odds ratio, 1.47; 95% confidence interval, 0.94-2.31).
