The prognostic role of the functional IL-6 (promoter) rs1800795 and the IL-6R (receptor) rs8192284 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) was studied in patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with palliative chemotherapy.
The interleukin 6 -174 G/C (rs1800795) gene polymorphisms was analyzed in gastric cancer, peptic ulcer, and nonulcer dyspepsia patients and in healthy control subjects and the data were correlated with the histopathological features of the patients' biopsies.
Epidemiological studies have evaluated the associations between interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene -174 C/G (rs1800795) and -572 C/G (rs1800796) polymorphisms and gastric cancer (GC) risk, but results and conclusions remain controversial.
