<b>Results:</b> Three SNPs were significantly associated with survival of patients with colorectal cancer after correction for multiple testing, and two of the SNPs (<i>hsa-mir-196a-2</i> rs11614913 and <i>U85</i> rs714775) remained significant in multivariate analyses.
Our meta-analysis suggests that the rs11614913 most likely contributes to decreased susceptibility to cancer, especially in Asians and colorectal cancer and gastric cancer, and that the rs3746444 may increase risk for cancer.

Although recent studies focused on various diseases that harbor the miR-146aC>G (rs2910164), 149C>T (rs2292832), 196a2C>T (rs11614913), and 499A>G (rs3746444) polymorphisms, the role of miRNA genetic variants in colorectal cancer is still unknown.
Our data suggest a lack of association between rs11614913, rs895819 and rs2910164 and colorectal cancer risk in the Central-European Caucasian population, a population with an extremely high incidence of sporadic colorectal cancer.
