Additionally, differential methylation or expression of several genes, including fibroblast activation protein α (FAP), interferon α inducible protein 27 (IFI27), laminin subunit γ2 (LAMC2), matrix metallopeptidase 1 (MMP1), serine peptidase inhibitor Kazal‑type 5 (SPINK5) and zinc finger protein 662 (ZNF662), was significantly associated with the survival of OSCC patients, and their differential expression in OSCC patients was further confirmed by reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction in OSCC and normal oral cell lines.
Several novel findings were obtained: (i) cytoplasmic p27 was observed in 8.6%, most frequently in SCC (13.3%), and correlated with nodal metastasis (P=.0044), (ii) significant inverse correlation between nuclear p27 and Pirh2 expression was observed by statistical analysis and at the cellular level, and (iii) cytoplasmic Pirh2 and total (cytoplasmic and/or nuclear) Pirh2 were significantly correlated with the nodal status (P=.0225, 0.0314), the pathological stage (P=.0213, 0.0475) and recurrence-free survival (P=.0194, 0.0482, respectively) in AC.
Interferon alpha-inducible protein 27 (IFI27) is an interferon alpha-inducible protein, which was found to be upregulated in some cancers, such as breast cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and serous ovarian carcinoma.
The aim of the present study was to examine the expression of Jun activation domain-binding protein 1(Jab1) and p27 and to elucidate its clinicopathologic significance in a larger series of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the esophagus.
In the present study, we investigated if small interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated gene silencing of Skp2 can be employed in order to inhibit p27 down-regulation in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
In SCCs there was no association between p27 expression and the presence of keratinization and tumor grade. p21 and p53 expressions were not associated with IPs (dysplastic and nondysplastic) and SCCs.
In this study, we examined Skp2 and p27 protein expression by immunohistochemistry in normal oral epithelium and in different stages of malignant oral cancer progression, including dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma.
Immunohistochemical staining of p27 was performed in samples of normal cervical tissue (30 samples), cervical intraepithelial neoplasias (CINs; 17 samples), and invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC; 25 samples).
