We report the case of an 83-year-old man, admitted to our hospital for gastroenteritis, complicated by dehydration and severe prothrombin time prolongation due to oral anticoagulant therapy accumulation, who developed hospital-acquired pneumonia; neither of these illnesses responded to several lines of antibiotic therapy.
In phosphate-buffered solution, cis-4-fluoroproline is more active than the trans isomer, a distinction that appears to originate from a destabilizing interaction between the fluorine atom and phosphate anion during general acid-catalyzed dehydration of the carbinolamine intermediate. trans-4-Ammoniumprolines are exceptionally active catalysts owing to favorable Coulombic interactions involving the ammonium group and the alkoxide moiety formed upon 1,2-addition of the proline derivative to the ketone.
Network-establishing and quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) suggested that genes encoding ubiquitin-protein ligase E3 (E3-1), SUMO-activating enzyme sub-unit 2 (SAE2), calmodulin (CaM) and inositol-1,3,4-trisphosphate 5/6-kinase (ITPK) were the hub genes which responded positively to two successive dehydration treatments.
Dehydration affected the oxidative stress biomarkers causing a significant increase in malondialdehyde, glutathione, nitric oxide, and catalase values compared with controls.
However, during the early stages of nucleation in solution, we note synergistic effects on nucleation kinetics and ACC formation/stability (via dehydration) that are not observed for the individual proteins.
Homozygous mutations in ELOVL4 cause severe neuropathology in humans (Ozaki et al., JAMA Neurol 72(7): 797-805, 2015; Mir et al., BMC Med Genet 15: 25, 2014; Cadieux-Dion et al., JAMA Neurol 71(4): 470-475, 2014; Bourassa et al., JAMA Neurol 72(8): 942-943, 2015; Aldahmesh et al., Am J Hum Genet 89(6): 745-750, 2011) and are post-natal lethal in mice (Cameron et al., Int J Biol Sci 3(2): 111-119, 2007; Li et al., Int J Biol Sci 3(2): 120-128, 2007; McMahon et al., Molecular Vision 13: 258-272, 2007; Vasireddy et al., Hum Mol Genet 16(5): 471-482, 2007) from dehydration due to loss of VLC-SFA that comprise the skin permeability barrier.
Specially, proteins involved in abiotic stress, such as <i>OsSKIPa</i> and <i>OsPP2C</i>, which were significantly induced in early after dehydration treatment in transgenic rice, and the other stress response genes (prohibitin protein, PsbP protein, msrB Protein) also changed in PeaT1 OE lines.
Both MDP0000171041 (MdSAMDC1) and MDP0000198590 (MdSPDS1) were induced by alkaline, salt, ABA, cold, and dehydration stress treatments, suggesting that these genes are the main contributors to activities of S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.50) and spermidine synthase (EC 2.5.1.16) in apple.
Our results showed that NFATc1 and c4 protein levels decreased during dehydration, and there were no changes in NFATc2, c3, and calcium signalling proteins.
Previous works show that the addition of trehalose and gums in β-galactosidase (lactase) Ca(II)-alginate encapsulation systems improved its intrinsic stability against freezing and dehydration processes in the pristine state.
The biosynthesis of bacterial DHN utilized a type III PKS for polyketide synthesis, an AKR superfamily for reduction, and a SnoaL2-like NTF2 superfamily for dehydration, whereas the biosynthesis of fungal DHN utilized a type I PKS, SDR superfamily enzyme, and SD-like NTF2 superfamily.
Accelerated storage tests using dehydrated live cell powder at 50, 60, and 70 °C were performed, and the results showed that immobilization with 10% skim milk effectively increased the thermal resistance of entrapped microorganisms, resulting in sevenfold longer shelf-life than the control (in PBS).
Taken together, this work provides evidence for a model in which high c-di-AMP containing cells are dehydrated due to lower K+ and compatible solute levels and that this osmoregulation system is able to sense and respond to cellular water stress.
BAM receptors are required for the CLE25 peptide-induced dehydration stress response in leaves, and the CLE25-BAM module therefore probably functions as one of the signalling molecules for long-distance signalling in the dehydration response.
To study the importance of the dehydrated (Dha5 and Dhb14) and protease-susceptible (Lys2 and Arg13) residues within mutacin 1140 for stability and bioactivity, each of these residues was evaluated for its impact on production and inhibitory activity.
The sugars generate an efficient protective environment around position 2 (and 4) of the flavylium cation, through an intramolecular sandwich-type stacking that retards 35-fold the hydration reaction ( kh) and increases 8.8-fold the dehydration reaction ( k-h), when compared with the peonidin chromophore HBA 3.
It is proposed that the specific reversal by serum albumin of the erythrocyte echinocytosis in an inorganic phosphate buffer saline or in a saline, either after 24 h in blood or after a storage of 6-7 weeks in SGAM or PAGGSM media, is due to a cell dehydration by a decrease of the total NaCl and KCl concentrations favoring the stomatocytogenic slow outward transport of inorganic phosphate with a hydrogen ion by band 3 anion exchanger, which was previously proposed to control the erythrocyte shape.
