Chemokine CXCL12 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12) restricts immune cell invasion of the central nervous system (CNS) and limits neuroinflammation in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the CNS, multiple sclerosis (MS).
This review aims to integrate the current findings of the CXCL12/CXCR4/CXCR7 signaling pathway in the CNS and to highlight its role in oligodendrocyte development and demyelinating diseases.
