In addition, STAT, forkhead box transcription factor (FoxP3), and pZAP70 expression in CD4+ T cells was suppressed in DM, whereas STAT and pZAP70 expression in CD8+ T cells was induced in PM.
The number of CD4(+)CD25(++)FoxP3(+) T(reg) in the peripheral blood of patients with DM was significantly reduced compared to healthy controls (p < 0.05), whereas other cell populations showed no significant differences.
The Foxp3 reactivity was less than 10% for cases of dermatomyositis and lupus erythematosus, 23% for hypersensitivity cases, 0% for graft-vs.-host disease, 16% for the dyscrasias and 11% for the lymphomas.
