Interestingly, while numerous correlations were present between IL-β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IFN-γ, TNF-α, MCP-1, and many of the inflammatory cytokines measured, VEGF and EGF exhibited much less extensive correlation, suggesting that their involvement in DIC may be independent of the other investigated inflammatory markers.
Recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin (rTM) is a newly developed anti-coagulant approved for treatment of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in Japan. rTM exerts anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective functions via its lectin-like and epidermal growth factor-like domains, respectively.
