SLE was induced using two immunologic approaches: (1) immunization with the human monoclonal anti-DNA antibody expressing the 16/6Id, to which the DBA/2 strain is susceptible (responder) and the C57BL/6 strain is resistant (nonresponder); and (2) induction of autoimmune GVHD in B6D2F1 hosts by inoculation of parental DBA/2 (induces SLE) or C57BL/6 (does not induce SLE) T cells.
