The contribution of C-reactive protein ≥30 mg/l as an additional criterion to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-based algorithm incorporating pyrexia with chest signs and leukocytosis and/or chest infiltrates to diagnose stroke-associated pneumonia was assessed in 1088 acute stroke patients from 37 UK stroke units.
Consequently, the analysis of 37 pyrexia episodes in 11 patients showed that the differences in NC, NR and CRP at the onset of pyrexia were significantly different from those at pyretolysis (P = 0.01, 0.006 and 0.03, respectively).
