To study the association between Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha polymorphisms, infection by Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) and the development of gastrointestinal diseases.
It remains to be determined whether the relationship between IL-1 gene polymorphism and gastrointestinal disease in patients with H. pylori infection is due to the role of IL-1 in determining susceptibility to H. pylori infection per se or to the development of distinct pathological lesions.
