Despite the fact that, due to small sample size, our results should be considered as preliminary, our study suggests that miR-34a is associated with tumor burden and can be important for health-related quality of life, functional status, and mood symptoms of glioblastoma patients.
Notably, LCC-09-mediated anti-GBM/GSC activities were associated with the re-expression of tumor suppressor miR-34a and reversal of TMZ-resistance, in vitro and in vivo.
Mir-34a-5p Mediates Cross-Talk between M2 Muscarinic Receptors and Notch-1/EGFR Pathways in U87MG Glioblastoma Cells: Implication in Cell Proliferation.
Consistent to the computationally predicted miRNA-lncRNA interaction, negative correlations were observed between levels of GAS5 and miR-34a in RCC samples (r = -0.949, p < 0.001), GB (r = -0.518, p < 0.001) and HCC (r = -0.455, p = 0.013).
Whilst drugs directly targeting SIRT1, were potent to trigger cell death at high concentrations only, introduction of synthetic miR-34a mimics was able to induce cell death in p53 mutated medulloblastoma and glioblastoma cell lines.
