We demonstrated that ALDH2 deficiency was not associated with liver disease progression but was associated with an increased risk of HCC development in cirrhotic patients with HBV who consumed excessive alcohol.
To study the factors affecting alcohol consumption among Taiwanese workers, we conducted an investigation of the association between alcohol drinking and smoking, aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2) status, alcohol dehydrogenase-2 (ADH2) status, any history of abnormal liver function, and hepatitis B and C viral infection.
A case control study on male primary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and hepatitis B or C virus and some potential risk factors, e.g. blood transfusion, aldehyde dehydrogenase 2(ALDH2) genotype and drinking habits, was performed using two controls, i.e. a hospital control(HC) and a community control(CC) in Fukuoka and Saga Prefectures.
