BAL IL-8 level was significantly correlated with all measures of CGM hyperglycemia including % time > 7.8 mmol/L (p = .008) and standard deviation (p < .001).
In this study we observed a significant augmentation of IL-8 production by endothelial cells during short-term hyperglycemia, and a similar but significantly stronger augmentation was obtained through TNF treatment.
To examine in vitro the effect of hyperglycemia and AGEs on the amounts of interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 produced in periodontally infected gingiva, human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) were stimulated with glucose, AGE-modified bovine serum albumin (AGE-BSA) and Porphyromonas gingivalis LPS in the present study.
