In adult patients, neuroendocrine alterations include sick euthyroid syndrome, an increase in corticosteroid levels, increase in prolactin levels, decreased insulin growth factor 1 levels and hypogonadism.
Half of all men with prolactin (PRL)-producing macroadenomas present with hypogonadism, decreased libido and impotence, and therefore require testosterone replacement.
This disorder is generally characterized by GH, TSH, prolactin (PRL), and gonadotropin deficiency, but recent papers have described a concomitant alteration of the corticotrope function.
