VEGF is known to play important roles in acute kidney injury (AKI), and the present study investigates the efficacy of SW for AKI by renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury.
Collectively, these studies indicate that podocyte VEGF-A regulates alpha(V)beta(3) integrin signaling in the glomerulus, and that podocyte VEGF knockdown disrupts alpha(V)beta(3) integrin activity via decreased VEGFR2 signaling, thereby damaging the three layers of the glomerular filtration barrier, causing proteinuria and acute renal failure.

Higher levels of postoperative proangiogenic markers, VEGF and PGF, were associated with lower AKI and mortality risk, whereas higher postoperative antiangiogenic VEGFR1 levels were associated with higher risk for AKI and mortality.
IL-6-VEGF-axis-induced glomerular microangiopathy may play a crucial role in developing acute kidney injury in TAFRO syndrome and the anti-IL-6 receptor antibody therapy may be useful for TAFRO syndrome refractory to glucocorticoids.
Postoperative plasma biomarkers including NGAL, h-FABP, CK-MB, hsTNT, NT-proBNP, IL-6, IL-10 and VEGF were analyzed using group-based method among 426 patients with AKI after cardiac surgery.
The aims of the this study were to investigate the long-term outcome and safety of treatment with autologous and allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) after AKI and the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as one of the principal paracrine mediators of renoprotection of MSCs.
The results showed a significant rise in creatinine, urea, and cystatin C (cys C) levels and upregulation of p38 mRNA, whereas a significant decline in NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1) protein and downregulation of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) mRNA and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA were recorded in AKI.
These results suggest that VEGFG+405C polymorphism might be associated with a higher risk of preterm birth and that VEGF C-2578A polymorphism may participate in the development of perinatal complications such as NEC and ARF.
Translational repression of VEGFA mRNA by p19(ARF) does not require p53, a major target of the ARF tumor suppressor pathway, but instead correlates with binding to nucleophosmin/B23.
