The authors analyzed in a retrospective manner the prognostic significance of p53 and mdm-2 expression, DNA ploidy, S-phase fraction (SPF), and traditional clinical and pathological prognostic factors in patients with uterine leiomyosarcomas.
In addition, we have demonstrated a significant association between the presence of abnormalities of the p53 gene or MDM2 genes in leiomyosarcomas and a more advanced clinicopathological stage (P = 0.03).
TP53 mutations were detected in 12 cases (five osteosarcomas, four MFHs, and three leiomyosarcomas), of which none showed amplification, but one had increased levels of MDM2 mRNA.
