The search revealed several new potential candidate genes involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory lung diseases: 25-(OH)-vitamin D(3)-1alpha-hydroxylase (CYP27B1), endothelin-1 (EDN1) and glutathione S-transferase Pi (GSTP1).
GSTP1Ile105Val polymorphism in exon 5 was determined in 210 patients with asthma (112 extrinsic and 108 intrinsic) and 265 control individuals without lung diseases and without history of allergy or atopy, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) techniques.
