The carrier frequency of the KIR2DS2 gene was significantly increased in SLE patients compared to healthy controls (73.3 versus 45.0%; OR = 3.36; 95% CI = 1.46-7.74; p = .005) suggesting a role of KIR2DS2 gene in the susceptibility to disease.
Predisposition to SLE was associated with GTGT deletion at the SLC11A1 3'UTR, presence of KIR2DS2 +/KIR2DS5 +/KIR3DS1 + profile, increased number of stimulatory KIR genes, and European and Amerindian ancestries.
