Our study demonstrated an association of FcγRIIB polymorphisms with SLE and lupus nephritis and a lack of association of FcγRIIA polymorphisms with SLE in the Egyptian patients.
Here we evaluated the relevance of Fc gamma RIIa gene polymorphism in the development of lupus immune complex (IC)-mediated nephritis by comparing the genotype and allelic distribution of this receptor in lupus nephritis to ethnically matched healthy controls in Brazilians.
Therefore, since immune complex clearance is essential in SLE, we hypothesized that Fc gamma RIIA genes are important disease susceptibility factors for SLE, particularly lupus nephritis.
