we found that miR-217 had a low level expression in gastric tumor tissues of 40 patients with GC, and a lower expression in the gastric tumor tissues of the patients with GC metastasis.
We observed a strongly negative correlation between expressions of miR-217 and PTPN14 mRNA in GC tissues, and miR-217 repressed PTPN14 expression by directly targeting its 3'UTR.
In conclusion, these findings revealed that miR-217 functioned as a tumor suppressor and inhibited the proliferation and invasion of GC cells by targeting GPC5, which might consequently serve as a therapeutic target for GC patients.
