Recent studies have associated osteitis with nasal polyps and tissue eosinophilia with the increase in periostin expression and P-glycoprotein mucosal expression.
The expressions of periostin in NPs with asthma were higher than without asthma and the control nasal mucosa and positively associated with the TSLP (P<0.05).
When we compared patients with asthma who had comorbid chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps with patients with asthma without these comorbidities, we found serum periostin to be the sole biomarker among those tested for detecting the presence of nasal polyps.
Thus, our results suggest that LF and OSF-2 gene polymorphisms may have deep impact on the risk of rhinosinusitis nasal polyps' formation which may also depend on asthma or allergy.
