Positive correlations were observed between ICAM‑1 and ECP expression levels (P=0.010), as well as between extracellular collagen deposition and ICAM‑1 (P=0.010) and ECP (P=0.012) expression levels in the NP specimens, but not in the control specimens.
Nevertheless, IL-1beta, ICAM-1 and NF-kappaB may be associated with primary resistance to glucocorticoids in NP, whereas higher expression of GR-beta in poor responders only after glucocorticoid treatment may represent a secondary drug resistance mechanism in this disease.
To determine the expression of transcription factors [(nuclear factor-kappaB) NF-kappaB and (activator protein) AP-1], cytokines [IL-1beta, TNF-alpha and (granulocytes and macrophage colony-stimulating factor) GM-CSF], growth factor (b-FGF), chemokine (eotaxin-2) and adhesion molecule (ICAM-1) in NP in comparison with nasal mucosa controls. Methods Cross-sectional study.
