In this study we aimed to investigate the relation of blood levels of interleukin 1-beta (IL-1ß), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) with various neurocognitive functions in patients with OCD in comparison with its autogenous/reactive subtypes and healthy controls.
We examined behavioral alterations related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the role of TNFα and related signaling pathways in FTD patients with <i>GRN</i> mutations and in mice lacking progranulin (PGRN).
We found that the A allele of the TNFArs361525 polymorphism was significantly associated with OCD subjects, according to the allelic χ(2) association test (p=0.007).
Given the association between OCD and RF, the goal of the present study was to investigate a possible association between polymorphisms within the promoter region of TNFA and OCD.
