Our findings demonstrate that the tetracycline analogs suppress osteoclastogenesis via MMP-9-mediated H3 tail cleavage, and suggest that MMP-9 inhibition could offer a new strategy for the treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
DRG decreased the expression levels of osteoclast marker genes, including matrix metalloproteinase‑9, tartrate‑resistant acid phosphatase and cathepsin K. In conclusion, these findings suggested that DRG inhibited the differentiation of BMMs into mature osteoclasts by suppressing the RANKL‑induced activator protein‑1 and NFATc1 signaling pathways, and may be a potential candidate for treating and/or preventing osteoclast‑associated diseases, including osteoporosis.
In conclusion, MMP-2, MMP-9 and MMP-13 regulated the development of osteoporosis, and MMP-9 may be used as an important marker in the early diagnosis of osteoporosis.
In the logistic regression analysis adjusted for confounders, in addition to the SNPs in the aforementioned genes, the SNPs in the MMP9 and SOX4 genes were associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis.
