Frequencies of HLA-B*13, B*44, B*15 (B75), DRB1*10:01, and DRB1*12:02 were increased, and those of HLA-C*01, C*12, and DRB1*01:01 were decreased in PHN patients compared to those in controls (each, p < 0.05).
These results suggest that the HLA-A*3303-B*4403-DRB1*1302 haplotype plays an important role in the development of PHN after herpes zoster, but not in the onset of herpes zoster.
The frequency of the HLA-A*3303-B*4403-DRB1*1302 haplotype was also significantly higher in the PHN patients than in the healthy controls (P = 0.0039).
