Interestingly, enhanced production of interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels are found during active disease and increased levels have been reported in supernatants from human umbilical venous endothelial cells after stimulation with sera from patients affected by HSP.
No significant differences in allele or genotype frequencies of IL-8 gene +781 C/T polymorphism were observed between patients with HSP and controls (p=0.98, χ2=0.000 and p=0.49, χ2=1.432, respectively).
However, a significantly increased frequency of allele A of the IL-8 gene polymorphism was found in patients with HSP who developed renal manifestations compared with patients without renal involvement (p = 0.02; pcorr = 0.036).
