The slight difference between the sensitivity and specificity of RT-LAMP and SYBR Green Real-Time RT-PCR demonstrated that RT-LAMP can be used as a reliable and cost-effective method for diagnosis of rabies.
Further improvements are necessary so that the RT-LAMP assay can be employed for the universal detection of genetic variants of rabies virus in the field.
The reaction of RT-LAMP could be completed within 1 h and could be conducted under isothermal conditions using a conventional water bath or heat blocks, indicating that RT-LAMP is ideal for the diagnosis of rabies in developing countries.
