For instance, allelic frequencies of the AHNK-gene and tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP) haplotypes differed between men and women with ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
Our results indicate that the TNAP haplotype rs3767155 (G)/rs3738099 (G)/rs1780329 (T) is a novel genetic marker in men that is significantly associated with AS in multiplex families containing affected individuals of both sexes.
The results showed that there was no significant difference in allele, genotype or haplotype frequencies between the AS patients and the controls at the three SNPs in either case-control or family-based association study, which indicated that the TNAP gene was unlikely to play a major role in the susceptibility to AS in the Chinese Han population.
