The misfolded SOD1 was also detected in CSF from a subset of Parkinson's disease and progressive supranuclear palsy, albeit with smaller amounts than those in sALS.

We investigated whether specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes encoding enzymes of xenobiotic detoxification, mitochondrial functioning, or oxidative stress response, including debrisoquine 4-hydroxylase, paraoxonase 1 and 2, N-acetyltransferase 1 and 2 (NAT2), superoxide dismutase 1 and 2, and PTEN-induced putative kinase are associated with PSP.
In this study, we examined abnormal TDP-43 pathology in 13 sporadic ALS (SALS), six familial ALS (FALS) with and without Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) mutations (SOD1-FALS and non-SOD1-FALS), Guam ALS, two frontotemporal lobar degeneration with MND/ALS (FTLD-MND/ALS), one FTLD with ubiquitin-only-immunoreactive inclusions (FTLD-U) and two progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).
To determine whether reported genetic association of polymorphisms in the CYP2D6, CYP1A1, N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2), DAT1, and glutathione s-transferase M1 (GSTM1) genes with PD were evident in a population of 176 unrelated patients with sporadic PD and to extend these findings to other disease groups (familial PD [n = 30], ALS [n = 50], multiple system atrophy [n = 38], progressive supranuclear palsy [n = 35], and AD [n = 23]).
