Increasing evidence has implicated PECAM-1 in a plethora of biological phenomena, including modulation of integrin-mediated cell adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, cell migration, negative regulation of immune cell signalling, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis and thrombosis.
