Although the preliminary associations observed seem promising, the only consistent result is the upregulation of mir-21 in DLBCL patients, which could be a biomarker for diagnosis.Further studies are needed.
Furthermore, statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 19.0 software and the expression levels of miR-21 and Bcl-2 within DLBCL tissues were significantly upregulated when compared to those in normal tissues (P<0.01).
However, the exact contribution of miR-21 in DLBCL remains unknown. To determine the function and mechanism of miR-21 in DLBCL, miR-21 and phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) expressions were examined through real-time PCR and immunohistochemical methods.
In conclusion, the miRs expression in B-NHLs[11q] provides a new suggestion, in addition to pathomorphological and clinical similarities between classical, i.e., MYC translocation-positive BL, and B-NHLs[11q], to recognize the B-NHLs[11q] subgroup of DLBCL/BL category as a MYC translocation-negative variant of BL in most cases, and points to the potential utility of miR-155/BIC/miR-21/miR-26a for the differential diagnosis of a heterogeneous category of DLBCL/BL.
These data demonstrated that miR-21 plays an important oncogenic role in DLBCL by modulating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR/FOXO1 pathway at multiple levels resulting in strong prognostic implication.
In the present study, we investigated whether miR-21 is involved in regulating the sensitivity of the diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) cell line CRL2631 to the cyclophosphamide, vincristine, Adriamycin, and prednisone (CHOP) chemotherapeutic regimen.
We therefore investigated whether microRNAs also have diagnostic utility by comparing levels of tumour-associated MIRN155 (miR-155), MIRN210 (miR-210) and MIRN21 (miR-21) in serum from diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients (n = 60) with healthy controls (n = 43).
Finally, eight miRNAs were found to correlate with event-free and overall survival in DLBCL including known tumour suppressors (MIRN21, MIRN127 and MIRN34a) and oncogenes (MIRN195 and MIRNLET7G).
