Moreover, plasma 25(OH)D3 levels were inversely associated with EH, However, we did not find the association between serum 25(OH)D3 and VDR variants.
In this study we evaluated the relationship between vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms (Bsm-I, Apa-I and Fok-I), and target organ damage in 74 patients (female/male 49/25, mean age 49.2 +/- 8 years) with essential hypertension.
These results indicate that the BB genotype of the vitamin D receptor gene is associated with lower serum Ca levels but is not a useful predictive marker for the development of essential hypertension in Japanese subjects.
