Because the GCNT2 locus is rich in Short INterspersed Elements (SINE repeats) and thus likely prone to genomic rearrangements, microdeletions or microduplications at this locus might cause a larger than currently anticipated fraction of apparently isolated autosomal-recessive cataracts.
