We measured the serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8OHdG), Sirutin 1 (SIRT1), peroxisome proliferator- activated receptor gamma (PPAR-r), Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α), orkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1), orkhead box protein O3 (FOXO3), catalase, (SOD) and hydrogen peroxide (H<sub>2</sub> O<sub>2</sub> ) among 19 patients with cataract as control group and 36 patients with RVO, respectively.
Taken together, our findings revealed that miR-23b-3p regulated apoptosis and autophagy via suppressing SIRT1 in LEC cell under oxidative stress, which could provide new ideas for clinical treatment of cataract.
Recently, polymethoxylated flavones of K. parviflora (KPMFs) were shown to have potent Sirtuin 1 enzyme-stimulating and anti-glycation activities that led to the suppression of cataract formation.
These results suggest that SIRT1 may provide protection against diseases related to oxidative stress-induced ocular damage, including cataract, age-related macular degeneration, and optic nerve degeneration in glaucoma patients.
