Comparison of data obtained in meningeal and white matter infiltrates revealed higher expression of genes related to interferonγ production, B cell differentiation, cell proliferation, lipid antigen presentation, and T cell and myeloid cell recruitment, as well as more widespread EBV infection in the meningeal samples.
PD-L1 expression in tumor cells can be induced by extrinsic signal (i.e. interferon gamma) or intrinsic signals, such as genetic aberrations involving 9p24.1, latent Epstein-Barr virus infection, PD-L1 3'- untranslated region disruptions, and activated Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway.
Interleukin-10 (IL-10) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) are believed to play a critical role in the host's responses to EBV infection, and their genetic variations may modify the association of EBV with BC risk.
In archival tumour specimens (n = 10) however, GAGE-1/-2 gene expression was detected in only 3/8 cases with coincident EBV infection and IFN-gamma expression.
