This study demonstrates that intensity of malaria transmission correlates with AID expression levels in the presence of EBV suggesting that malaria and EBV infection have a synergistic effect on the development of c-myc translocations and BL.
These findings indicate that EBV induced AID and pol-eta expression, and that this was associated with oncogene mutation, providing a novel means by which EBV infection of B cells may contribute to lymphomagenesis.
The present work extends our findings and shows that whereas AID expression is rapidly induced following EBV infection, BCL6 expression is gradually down-regulated and is fully extinguished in already established LCLs.
