A total of 43 high-grade endometrial carcinoma cases initially classified as pure high-grade endometrioid carcinoma (n=32), mixed high-grade endometrioid carcinoma/serous carcinoma (n=9) and mixed high-grade endometrioid carcinoma/clear cell carcinoma (n=2) were retrospectively stained with a panel of immunostains, including antibodies for p53, p16, estrogen receptor, and mammaglobin.
To determine estrogen as a growth promotor, the authors investigated the presence or absence of estrogen receptor-alpha (ER-alpha), ER-beta, progesterone receptor, and dioxin receptor (i.e., aromatic hydrocarbon receptor) in clinically resected ovarian CCA, serous adenocarcinoma (SAC), endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EAC), and mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) specimens using an immunohistochemical method.
LOH of the ESR marker was detected in 4 (50%) of 8 informative SCa, but in 0 of 4 informative CCa and 1 (16%) of 6 informative SLMP. p53 protein overexpression was present in 8 of 12 SCa but did not correlate to TP53 LOH.
