Megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with cysts (MLC) is a genetic infantile-onset disease characterized by macrocephaly and white matter edema due to loss of MLC1 function.
Mutations in MLC1, which is mainly expressed in astrocyte endfeet, produce megalencephaly, whereas the mild clinical course contrasts with severe MRI features.
