Twenty SS cases were observed and the positive immuno-expression results showed CD133 (17/20), CD29 (11/20), CD44 (11/20), nestin (6/20), and ALDH1 (5/20).
To reveal the molecular machinery underlying the stem-like features in tumor cells, we analyzed a promoter of CD133 gene using human colon carcinoma Caco-2 and synovial sarcoma Fuji cells, which endogenously express CD133 gene.
The relationship between CD133 expression and cancer stem-like cells suggests that CD133 expressing synovial sarcoma cells may represent cancer stem-like cells in synovial sarcoma, which has significant implications for understanding the pathogenesis of this tumor and developing effective therapies.
