The expression profiles for the 12 biomarkers were poorly conserved throughout these studies with only TYR, S100B and SPP1 showing consistently elevated expression in metastatic melanoma versus normal skin.
In this study we report that expression of GLI1 and osteopontin (OPN) increase progressively with the progression of melanoma from primary cutaneous cancer to metastatic melanoma in clinically derived specimens.
When a cutoff of 10 ng/mL was used, the sensitivity and specificity of serum osteopontin in detecting metastatic melanoma was 87.5%, and the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve was 96%.
