Increased TRPV2 overexpression is present in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma associated with advanced disease, lymph node metastasis, and poor prognosis.
In summary, TRPV1, TRPV2, and TRPV4 were functionally expressed in human esophageal squamous cells, and thermo-TRPVs might play an important role in the development of ESCC.
The results of the present study suggest that TRPV2 is involved in the maintenance of CSCs, and that its specific inhibitor, tranilast, has potential as a targeted therapeutic agent against esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
