Importantly, we found that serum miR-548k and VEGFC of early stage ESCC patients were significantly higher than that in healthy donators, suggesting a promising application of miR-548k and VEGFC as biomarkers in early diagnosis of ESCC.
We conducted a detailed study of lymphangiogenesis and subsequent lymph node metastasis in early-stage esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) using immunostaining for D2-40 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C and D. The study materials included 13 samples of normal squamous epithelium, 6 samples of low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (LGIN), and 60 samples of superficial ESCC (M1 and M2 cancer 24; M3 or deeper cancer 36).
The expression levels of MTA1 and VEGF-C in ESCC exhibited a positive correlation in ESCC, which may co-promote lymph angiogenesis and lymph node metastasis in ESCC; therefore, they may be used as biomarkers for determining the prognosis of ESCC.
Overexpression of VEGF-C in Kazakh ESCCs was significantly associated with gender, depth of tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis and tumor clinical stage.
A meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the association between VEGF-C expression with clinicopathological characteristics and survival of ESCC patients.
Importantly, significant correlation between levels of AKIP1 and VEGF-C is observed in a cohort of human ESCC, as well as in non-small cell lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and ovarian cancer.
Here, we report that expression of the transcription factor Nkx2-8 is downregulated in ESCCs where it inversely correlates with progression and VEGF-C upregulation.
In this article, quantitative RT-PCR was employed to detect the mRNA levels of esVEGFR-2 and VEGF-C in 90 paired primary ESCC tissues, along with immunohistochemical staining to measure esVEGFR-2 protein in 182 ESCC primary tissues.
HMGB1 expressed highly in the nuclei and cytoplasm of carcinoma cells as well as the extracellular space in ESCC and was associated with lymph node metastasis, MLD, the expression of VEGF-C, TNM stage and the prognosis of patients (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).
We investigated the mRNA levels of VEGF-C and its receptors in 38 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma specimens (ESCCs) and matched adjacent normal esophageal tissues via real-time PCR.
Chi-square tests revealed that NF-κB and Notch1 expression in ESCC tissues were significant associated with lymph node metastasis, LVD, podoplanin, and VEGF-C expression.
