The AUC with the LA-FINDRISC vs. the O-FINDRISC were: for uT2D, 0.722 vs. 0.729 in men (p=0.854) and 0.724 vs. 0.732 in women (p=0.896); for prediabetes (impaired fasting glucose [IFG] + impaired glucose tolerance [IGT], 0.590 vs. 0.587 in men (p=0.887) and 0.621 vs. 0.627 in women (p=0.777); for IFG, 0.582 vs. 0.580 in men (p=0.924) and 0.607 vs. 0.617 in women (p=0.690); for IGT, 0.691 vs. 0.692 in men (p=0.971) and 0.672 vs. 0.671 in women (p=0.974).
Among the 152 subjects with prediabetes (IFG and/or IGT), two groups each with 20 individuals, having the lowest and highest pancreatic fat content were selected.
Both non-fasting and fasting glucose levels and the results of glucose and insulin tolerance tests showed that mice fed an 8-week HFD developed pre-diabetes with IGT; whereas mice fed a 16-week HFD presented with impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance (IFG-IGT).
Prediabetes and diabetes were defined as 100 to 125 mg/dL (impaired fasting glucose [IFG]) and ≥126 mg/dL for FPG (diabetes mellitus [DM] by FPG [DM<sub>FPG</sub>]), and 5.7% to 6.4% and ≥6.5% for HbA1c, respectively.
Among the 2713 study participants, 28% revealed prediabetes (isolated impaired fasting glucose [i-IFG], isolated glucose tolerance [i-IGT] or both by American Diabetes Association definition), 4.2% had unknown type 2 diabetes, 6.5% had i-MA, 3.1% i-RKF and 10.9% CKD.
Finally, HbA1c may perform very differently across diverse populations according to race/ethnicity; in Chinese populations, the proportion of individuals classified with prediabetes based on HbA1c predominates compared with IFG (77% for HbA1c vs 27.7% for IFG), whereas in US populations, it is the opposite (24.8% for HbA1c vs 80.1% for FPG).
It is not known whether a similar genetic impact on the risk of prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance [IGT] or impaired fasting glycemia [IFG]) exists.
