The expression of type X collagen, Runx2, and Runx2 mRNA, the cell density of type X collagen and Runx2 positive chondrocytes, and histological changes between convex side and concave side of the vertebral growth plate indicated that the vertebral growth plate was affected by mechanical forces, which was a secondary change and could contribute to progression of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
