The set of our data established that camptothecin- and doxorubicin-induced activation of Jun N-terminal kinase/activating transcription factor 2 pathway via de novo ceramide synthesis down-regulates thrombospondin-1 expression and apoptosis in human thyroid carcinoma FTC-133 cells.
When we examined TSP-1 and ID3 expression in 34 differentiated thyroid cancers, ID3 was significantly increased in tumors compared with normal thyroid tissue.
These findings suggest that induction of apoptosis by camptothecin or doxorubicin in FTC-133 cells is greatly dependent by a down-regulation of TSP-1 expression and shed new light on a possible role for TSP-1 in drug resistance.
